My APPROACH
I have been informed by my upbringing and childhood to be deliberate and interested in the world. I have many interests that include woodworking and building useful furniture, bicycling both for the love of athletic sport and for application of technology as I maintain my equipment, gardening and lanscaping to increase productivity through management of the biological processes. Importantly, I am a parent and have been closely aligned with my childrens' maturation, skill development, acquiring values and testing their limits. No one person can be "in charge" of another but we can certainly influence, guide, help adapt, observe closely, learn how to give space and in certain instances and for certain people learn how to get closer and be more intelligently involved in  supporting and guide towards the healthiest and most productive development. I beleive strongly that emotions, values and cognition are all required to inform the person-baby or ancient-about that step forward or backwards in life, simple to complex skills.

I rely on the most up to date research in my field and utilize the most modern standardized assessmnet tools as well as two decades worth of developed and proven clinical reasoning experience.

Occupational Therapy
A person’s life is made up of activities of daily living, call them “occupations”. From birth through old age these occupations change with development, change with needs and wants and continue to adapt and or decline based on abilities.  Occupational Therapists work directly with patients and their caregivers, children and their families, elderly and their supports, etc. to help adapt and succeed in all areas of skills and activity that comprise daily routines.

  1. Home therapy
A practical choice for busy parents. Home based therapy is a preferred model for the quality it brings to a known environment. Changes to skills, behavior and habits can be assessed realisticaly and worked on where it matters most.
  2. Outdoor therapy
When the weather is supportive it's time to learn outdoor occupations such as how to ride the bicycle, plant and care for a fruit producing garden, climb a tree, throw and catch a frisbee. Some of our most beloved memories come from being outside when we married a new skill to the sensory experience of the world. It may be time to re-try an experience adapted so it is less threatening or frustrating, supported and nourished until it is then easier for the parent or caregiver to take over.
  3. Consultations
Therapy can assist with regular and basic challenges that many families face by helping to create routines at home, the how to's for the way to school, best practice for meal times, to choosing toys that are appropriate, etc. Modern assessment with tools and the agent clinician to communicate with agencies such as school and caregivers usually expedites positive changes.
